On the threshold of the new century, the 1900 Universal Exhibition turned Paris into a "city of light", suddenly attracting artists from all over the world. Painters, poets, musicians... they all flocked to the French capital, which became a mecca for artistic creativity in Europe and a magnet for the rest of the world. Composers such as Saint-Saens, Fauré, Debussy and Ravel were at the forefront of a veritable revival of French music. At the same time, many foreign musicians were staying in Paris: Spanish composers in particular came to work here - Manuel de Falla, Turina, Albéniz, Granados, Rodrigo... - and made a major contribution to the artistic flourishing of the French capital.
