Hire a bike and let’s go for a trip of 18 km around the lake. You will first see signs giving some information about the birds living around the lake and that you can watch from 2 observatories. The lake of Rillé is large (250 ha) and surrounded by trees allowing the life of many bird species. Then, you will ride on small country roads under the friendly gaze of the horses and cows grazing in the surrounding fields.

To complete this enchanting bike trip, these are a few treasures to discover nearby: two family chateaux, Gizeux and Champchevrier. Generation after generation, the owners have worked hard to keep this precious heritage in order to share with you their love for their chateaux. You will be told amazing stories: a horse, Olympic champion at Gizeux; the night, King Louis 13th spent in the straw at Champchevrier. And, cherry on the cake, the owners will be there to welcome you in their prestigious home.

Vincent and Olivia, a Belgian couple, have decided to create their restaurant « Vincent Cuisinier de Campagne » in the middle of the Bourgueil vineyards. Vincent wants his cuisine to be local and authentic. He offers a menu “zero kilometer” with produce (fowl and vegetables) coming from his own production and the wine from the nearby wineries. Within a few years, Vincent has become a fervent ambassador of our regional gastronomy and you can trust him to advise you the best wines of the area. On his menu, 90 % of the wines are local and organic.

Note that the wine growers of bourgueil and saint-nicolas-de-bourgueil are leaders in terms of organic approach. The wine estates of this area are often small properties remaining in the family from generation to generation. It is the case of Xavier Amirault, owner and manager of “Le Clos des Quarterons”. He has an organic and biodynamic approach. He wants to reintroduce animals in his fields and plant trees and hedges on his property. It is his own story that you will feel, tasting the wine of his property!
