Adapted from the epistolary novel published in 1824, this text is a variation on jealousy and its torments.
Confronted with the haunting image of her lover disappearing in the carriage of another beauty as she leaves the opera, our heroine tries to understand and calm the thousand emotions that assail her. Over the course of a sleepless night and a day lost waiting for a sign from the man who - it seems - has just betrayed her, she finds no other consolation than to write him forty-four letters to express twenty-four hours of fever, doubt and despair.
This unique novel by Constance de Salm will move all lovers of Stefan Zweig and Marcelle Sauvageot.
