Sweet dreams at Troglododo
When you’re staying in Touraine, there are so many things to do that it’s always tempting to change your plans at the last minute. Visits to châteaux, tastings in wine cellars, walking tours in towns or hiking… When evening comes, you’ll probably be glad to get back to your holiday accommodation. Especially if you are staying at Troglododo!
Troglododo, a former troglodytic farm, now a 3-star hotel
In Azay-le-Rideau, Alain and Cathy Sarrazin have spared no efforts to patiently transform a former winemakers’ troglodyte farm into one of the finest hotels in the region. First as a guest house and now as a hotel, the spirit is still the same.
The nine spacious rooms at Troglododo combine the traditional charm of tufa stone with far more contemporary facilities. The flower-filled patios provide a beautiful setting through the windows. Nature is everywhere, and Alain is always delighted to share his knowledge about it. As an ambassador for the Loire Anjou Touraine Park, he takes care to understand and preserve the local natural heritage in all its diversity. For all these good reasons, Troglododo is part of our selection of troglodytic and original types of accommodation!
What to see near Azay-le-Rideau
There are no fewer than seven major châteaux near Troglododo : Azay-le-Rideau, L’Islette, Villandry, Langeais, Ussé, Le Rivau and the royal fortress of Chinon.
You can also enjoy a visit to the Aulée wine cellar or to Nicolas Paget, the chance to try poires tapées (a dried pear speciality), wicker basketwork or a wonderful hike (10, 13 or 14 km) leaving from the Balzac Museum.
If you prefer a bike, then you can rent two-wheelers from Azay-le-Rideau Cycle and ride across the countryside on an 18 km trail known as “from the willow to the basket“.
